The original will in written in German Script and was probated 21 June 1803 --- March the 30th. One thousand eight hundred and one. In the name of God AMEN, I, Valentine Hoofman, of Rockingham County and State of Virginia, being aged and infirm but of perfect mind and memory and knowing that it is appointed for all men to die, do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following to wit: First, I leave my body to be buried in a decent manner at the discretion of my executors, hereafter to be named, my funeral charges, and just debts to be paid out of my personal estate. I give and bequeath to my two sons named George and Solomon all my lands that I now own, containing by estimation two hundred and eighty-five acres, to them, their heirs and assigns forever, it being the land they now live on, to be divided equally between them, and in such manner so as to let George have the old building where he now lives, and Solomon to have his where he now live, and they, the above, George Hoofman and Solomon Hoofman are to pay into my other children and grandchildren the sum of one thousand, six hundred, sixty-five dollars and sixty-seven cents in yearly payments hereafter by me directed in twelve months; after my decease, pay to my son Abrahman Hoofman two hundred dollars in three years, to pay unto my daughter Elizabeth Messerly thirty-three dollars and thirty-three cents, she having already received from her said two brothers George and Solomon Hoofman the sum of one hundred sixty-six dollars and sixty-seven cents; the fourth year they are to pay unto my daughter Catharine Black two hundred dollars; in two years they are to pay unto my daughter Esther Butt two hundred dollars; the sixth year they are to pay unto my daughter Mary Venice's children the sum of two hundred dollars; The seventh year they are to pay unto my son Abraham Hoofman one hundred and eighty-three dollars and thirty-three cents; the eighth year they are to pay unto my son Christian on hundred and eighty- three dollars and thirty-three cents' the ninth year they are to pay unto my son Abraham Hoofman one hundred dollars; my wearing apparel I give and bequeath to my four sons, namely, George, Christian, Abraham, and Solomon Hoofman to be equally divided between them; the remainder of my personal estate after my just debts and funeral charges are paid, I order to be equally divided between my children now living and my daughter Mary Venice's children, they drawing one share and ten dollars out of my other shares if my two sons George Hoofman and Solomon Hoofman thinks proper and pays of any or any part thereof of the legacies, hereby we will receipt for such sum or sums so paid there; in that case, it is my will that the paid sum or sums so paid by them shall be a good discount out of their part here by me willed at any time before my decease.
